Björk Declare Independence

Here we are at the cusp of 2008 and the major record labels start out the new year by releasing singles from the likes of the White Stripes, Bjork, Amy Winehouse/Mutya Buena, Mika, and even Queen. Again, its going to be another week of me finding filler as there was nothing really released this week that I could get overly excited about. Below find the Bjork video for the new single called Declare Independence which was issued by One Little Indian on a 3CD/1DVD package. Crazy video and interesting song. Feel like I was playing the video game Silent Hill.

Sam Isaac - Sideways

Good Indie track released near the end of this month. Lots of cakes being made in this video.

History Of House

Great documentary on the History Of House Music. Follows its roots from Disco and its evolution to Techno/Downtempo from the eighties to the late nineties. Well done.

The Love Corporation - Gimme Some Love

As 2007 comes to a close and we wait for the first new single releases of 2008 to be released I was doing some surfing and came across this very cool track from the Love Corporation. Released around the time of the acid house craze this great track remixed by Andy Weatherall was first issued back in 1991 on Creation Records more known for the alternative guitar pop of bands such asPrimal Scream, Jesus And The Mary Chain, Jazz Butcher, and The House Of Love than their club records. Fantastic track.

Pogues Fairytale Of New York

Classic Christmas track from the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl. Well enjoyed with spiked eggnog and a shot of whiskey. Re-released once again in the UK this ended up being the 4th biggest selling single of the week over there (I think they re-release it every year these days). The track was originally released back in 1988.

Jona Lewie - Stop the Cavalry

TIme to get festive as new releases slow down for the holiday season. Here find a classic new wave holiday season cut from Jona Lewie released originally 27 years ago in 1980. I'm off to do some last minute Christmas shopping. Enjoy.

Funky, Indie, Sexy, great track from Kate Nash. For who all who wrote her off her as a one hit wonder with Foundations, Not So!!!..Lyrically brilliant.Check it out....She is in Toronto (Mod Club) in early January..

Great new wave disco punk pop from Ineedtodiscover, a duo who hail from the UK. The track is called MixandMatch. Reminds me alittle of Bis from the 90s.

Young Galaxy - Outside The City

Another great track from this Canadian band off their self titled album released this year. This 7 Inch just dropped in the UK last week and follows up the amazing song Swing Your Heartache. Sons & Daughters Gilt Complex

Great indie punk tune by this band from Glasgow, Scotland. They have released two albums and are about to release their third. This is the first single off the new album called This Gift off Domino Records. Catchy track.

Bonde Do Role Marina Gasolina

Indie Funk is the best way to describe this track. Bonde Do Role are back with their 3rd single...typical strange video for the band. Great Track!

Good Shoes Small Town Girl

Great indiepop tune from the UK band. This is actually like their fifth single off their really good first album Think Before You Speak which was released in 2007.

Estelle Wait a Minute (Just a Touch)

Great catchy hip hop track from hip-hop artist, singer and producer Estelle.

Emma Pollock Paper And Glue

A former member of the Delgados, Emma released her first solo album on the 4AD label this year called Watch The FIreworks. This is the third single from the album. Great indiepop single.

Simian Mobile Disco Hustler

Great track by this electro/indie/club outfit. The track is off their most recent album but was floating around as a 12 Inch awhile back. It got rereleased in the UK just last week with new remixes. Attack Decay Sustain Release is the album and was one of my favourites released this year. Warning...Video is alittle odd.

Helen Love Its My Club

Another bubbly pop record from Helen Love with the Helen Love signature sound. The band is from Whales and sports what wikipedia terms a punk rock, bubblegum pop and disco dance sound. This tack is off their new album It's My Club And I'll Play What I Want To on Elefant Records out of Spain

Go Team Wrath Of Marcie

Can I really say anything short of this band is amazing. Great band to both see live and listen to. This is the latest single off their second CD Proof Of Youth. Great indie/club/hip hop music.

Human League Things That Dreams Are Made Of

Old track off their classic early eightiesLP Dare but its just been rereleased in the UK with new remixes. I even think Hooj Choons is involved, the classic club/trance label which has been around since the mid nineties. For me, Human League doesn't do anything wrong. Great eighties new wave synth music.

Raveonettes - Dead Sound

I can't say enough about this band. We are now three albums in and they can't do wrong. Amazing in concert, amazing on cd/vinyl, just plain amazing. The new album Lust Lust Lust is brilliant. This is where this song is from. This track was just released on 7 Inch vinyl in the UK. Buzzing in the spirit of the Mary Chain

Make Model The Was

Out of the Uk.....fantastic indiepop from this 6 member band. Male vocals and female vocals. The band released their first single on their own called The LSB and were quickly snapped up by Major label EMI for their release of this track The Was. The album is due out early next year. Fantastic Pop music

Morten Valence Sailors

Morton Valence include three Colombians, girls from Hong Kong and Ireland and a bloke from South London. Sailors is a great indie track which sounds like something from the late eighties.

Correcto Joni

What a great pop track by this Glasgow band on Domino Records. Jangily guitars, melodic hooks. First album is due out soon.

The Whip 'Sister Siam'

Cool clubby new wave indie track by The Whip. The Sister Siam single was just released last week in the UK on Southern Fried Records.

Justice D.A.N.C.E (Rerelease)

Old song but just reissued in the UK with new remixes. Slamming club track. I'm not very keen on the full length Justice album but this track does it. Great dance music

Super Furry Animals Run Away

Catchy romantic/sad indiepop track from the Super Furry Animals. They have been around for years. Survivors of the Mind-Nineties Britpop boom. The Super Furries are a Welsh rock band who started out in 1993. They have just released their 8th album called Hey Venus according to wikipedia. This is the second single off the album.

Kanye West Good Life

Great hip hop track from the man who seems to do no wrong. Having already produced the anthem of the year with Stronger, Kanye follows up with this catchy number.

Shout Out Louds Tonight I Have To Leave It

Great melodic indie track by the Shout Out Louds. Vocals sound alot like Robert Smith and the music alot like The Cure. The Shout Out Louds are from Stockholm, Sweden. Damn, so much good music coming from Sweden these days. The track is from the bands second album called Our Ill Wills and was released in the past few weeks as a 7 Inch in the UK.

Maps To The Sky

Maps is the recording name used by Northampton-based musician James Chapman. Chapman is said to be influenced by Spiritualized, whom "he loves", Galaxy 500 and Low, who are his "favourite band". This is his third UK single off the Mercury Music Award nominated album We Can Create. Great indie-drone track.

Yelle A Cause Des Garçons

Thanks to my friend Laura for pointing out this great track by Yelle. Yelle (a portmanteau of yeah and elle) is a French singer from the town of Saint-Brieuc, Bretagne. She has just released her first CD called Pop-Up in 2007 and features this single A Cause Des Garcons(translates to "Because of Boys"). Great electro/pop indie track. I've also included a video of the remix version of the track which is even better than the original and the video is great. Remixed by Tepr Tecktonik??.

Cribs Don't You Wanna Be Relevant

The Cribs are an English 3-piece indie band from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The band has gone on to release 3 albums - self titled debut The Cribs in 2004 and the follow up album The New Fellas in 2005. They released Men's Needs Women's Needs Whatever in 2007 which features this great track, their third single, Don't You Wanna Be Relevant which was just released in the UK. Great indie/britpop guitar track.

Dragons Lonely Tonight

Great indie/alt track called Lonely Tonight by the Dragons who are a band out of Bristol (UK). Sounds alittle like a cross between eighties outfits The Fixx and Joy Division. The track is from their first album Here Are The Roses.

Violets Troubles of Keneat and Siouxsie Here Comes That Day

The Violets are a post punk/indie/pop band from the New Cross area of London. The 7 inch is called Troubles Of Keneat and sounds like an updated version of Siouxsie and the Banshees. The Album is due out sometime this month and is called Lost Pages. Great track!!!



And while on the topic of Siouxsie, she released her second single off her first solo album Mantaray called Here Comes That Day (CD, 7 Inch, 12 Inch) last week in the UK. Hard to buy into her latest stuff when a band like the Violets are stealing her show. Still better than the first single Into A Swan

New Young Pony Club Get Lucky

New Young Pony Club are a five piece indie/club band from London England who have been receiving alot of critical acclaim for their first album Fantastic Playroom. Get Lucky got the re-release treatment in the UK this past week released on CD single and 2 7 inch records. This was actually NYPC's first single and was originally released in 2006. Maybe not as catchy a single as their other singles Ice Cream and The Bomb on first listen, it definately has grown on me.

Those Dancing Days Those Dancing Days

Great jangily indiepop 7 Inch released last week in the UK from these 5 girls who formed their band in Nacka a suburb of Stockholm, Sweden in 2005. Those Dancing Days is a "mixture of girl group charm, Northern Soul and Hammond driven pop". This is their first single called Those Dancing Days. Their second single called Hitten is just as good. They are releasing their stuff off Witchita, record label and home to Los Campesinos, and Peter Bjorn and John. I'm quite hyped on this band. Now if they could only make it to Toronto!

Ladytron Destroy Everything You Touch
