Joe Tex - I Gotcha (Retro 037)

Thought I would post this familiar "oldie" before the year ends as 2012 marked 40 years since this joint dropped and 30 years since the passing of the esteemed author, Joe Tex. Should be familiar to Tarantino and/or Bernie Mac fans.

Gotta say I LOOOVVVE that Big Brass vintage sound.

Jonny Pierce - I Didn't Realise (Hype 0302)

The name may sound familiar. Drums guy goes solo and here is the first track. A solo album is on the way in 2013. Very quirky indie downtempish track that seems to spiral into nowhere.

Junior Wells' Chicago Blues Band - Snatch It Back and Hold It (Retro 036)

Video: http://youtu.be/OSscKLEvlMg

Opening track from a classic album, which was Junior Wells's debut. What a bassline. I could listen to this all day long (I just might).

Trivia: Chicago blues legend Buddy Guy featured on the album as "Friendly Chap", a pseudonym chosen because Delmark Records thought Guy was under contract to Chess Records.

Quote: "Listen to the lyrics - we're singing about everyday life: rich people trying to keep money, poor people tying to get it, and everyone having trouble with their husband or wife!" - Buddy Guy

Classic Canadian new wave track that hit 30 years old this year from the album Arias And Symphonies. The Spoons were at Revival on Friday night to celebrate the 30 year landmark of the album with old members flying in from around the globe to participate in the epic show. Classic!!
