Girls Aloud - The Promise
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7TkyzvXLdo
Awful video. But catchy song from Girls Aloud. Sorta chasing the Duffy sound while keeping their pop side intact. Girls Aloud is a group that was formed through a TV contest called Popstars in 2002. Hard to believe this is their 6th album. The girls shoot out an album a year. This is their 19th top 10 hit in the UK and hit number 1.
This is the first single off the new album Out of Control which even has the Pet Shop Boys writing the music for one of the track.

Dears - Money Babies (Double Shot Tuesday)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58X68rQ4GJE
First single off the fourth album by Canadian band The Dears. The album Missiles is being issued on Dangerbird Records out of Los Angeles California. Nice droning indiepop track from the band who supposedly by the end of recording the album had been whittled down to 2 members. Rock N Roll.
The Last Shadow Puppets - My Mistakes Were Made For You (Double Shot Tuesday)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtAfZcax7uU
Musically teminds me alittle bit like Mono. The Last Shadow Puppets is a project of Alex Turner of the band Arctic Monkeys, Miles Kane of the band The Rascals. This is their 3rd single off the debut The Age of the Understatement. A soundtrack to a sixties spy movie.

NEiLS CHiLDREN - I'm Ill
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSXn5cqO5t8
Great indiepop circa eighties sounding single from Neils Children released on their own label Structurally Sound Records. The band have been releasing singles for about 6 years now and have even been issued on Alan Mcgee's Poptones label. Their second album is TBA but might be worth looking out for based on the strength of this jangily guitar pop single.

Sky Larkin - Fossil, I
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3leFQjJAW3E
A great track by a band called Sky Larkin out of Leeds, UK. A nice indiepop droning sound. No album as of yet. Just some singles and a ep. This is the first single of the Wichita Record label and sounds very polished in comparison to the early singles.

RIP The Long Blondes Guilt
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmncxVG-QxQ
I was reviewing Tricky Ricky's (of Panic Manual fame) music collection just recently and came across a Long Blondes collection called Singles. Singles? The band has only released 2 CDs and they have a greatest hits collection? I did some investigation and have discovered that this is their first record label Angular Recording Corporation putting out a compilation of early, pre-Rough Trade singles. The CD includes the A & B-sides of our first four singles, and some bonus tracks. Sounds exciting.
Unfortunately, I also discovered that the band has called it quits too. Dorian, one of the members of the band, had a stroke in June and does not know when he will be well enough to play guitar again. Official news was on their website as of October 19, 2008.
Here is the bands last single which was released in June called Guilt and was taken from their second and maybe final album Couples released on Rough Trade Records.
Great band and a sad day for Pop Music.

Submarines You Me & The Bourgeoisie
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYvt0boSRXQ
The Submarines sound slightly like The Cardigans circa 2000+. Catchy song which is supposedly being used to promote the Iphone or something like that. The band are signed to Nettwerk Records. Definately a nice pop tune. This is taken from their 2008 release Honeysuckle Weeks. The band is from Los Angeles.

Keane The Lovers Are Losing
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3L4SKfVx1Q
Definately an 80s sounding track. After buying Keane's first album Hopes And Fears I never got to hear their follow up Under The Iron Sea. Might need to go back and revisit that one. This is the second single off their new album Perfect Symmetry. Its even an eighties sounding title for an album. I don't even remember listening to the first single off this album when it came out a couple months back called Spiralling. The lovers are Losing is pretty good though.

The Rascals - I'll Give You Sympathy
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6TCfJWybfM
Indie Kid Vs Dance Kid's answer to Oasis out on Deltasonic Records in the UK. This is the third single taken from the debut album Rascalize. Lead singer Miles Kane has a second band, The Last Shadow Puppets, with Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys, in which he shares vocals with Turner.

MGMT - Kids

Third single from MGMT off their spectacular Oracular Spectacular album. New York band making waves all over the world. Not much to say here other than brilliant.

New Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhs2dxZorfw
Original Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zN5MXP4aRc
Instrumental classic club track from 1996 and is reissued by Hard 2 Beat Records with Cascada type vocals . I still personally prefer the original but a nice tribute to the classic.

Domino Records Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bW6USsmR70
Bad Sneakers Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6Z1ABZ1iQU
Reissue of their first single. Wild Beasts are an indiepop band from the UK. This is their second single to be issued from their debut album Limbo Panto on Domino Records. The singer's falsetto voice is definately unique and it might take a few listens of the album to get use to. There are two videos below. The original one that went along with the Bad Sneakers Records release back in 2006 and the re-release in 2008 by Domino Records

Mia-Paper Planes
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sei-eEjy4g
Old song..the album Kala, her second, has been out for a year now. But here it is, released as a single by XL Recordings. This is the massive hit that has sent British singer Mia into massive stardom. Question is what took everyone so long to figure it out.

CSS - Move
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGS3s3FZz_g
Just a quick note before we get to the review. Indie Kid Vs Dance Kid's sister blog Panic Manual is holding a special event at the Tap (517 Bloor Street West, Toronto) on Friday night. IKDK will be there and will definately make our best attempt to hijack the dj booth to water down the Suede and Pulp with some Sonny J. Visit their blog for more details.
New single from the brilliant Brazillian band Cansei de Ser Sexy off their 2nd album Donkey. Fun quirky bouncing eighties sounding song. CSS will make a stop off in Toronto for a show at the Opera House. Definately a band with lots of energy and worth seeing in concert. The new single features remixes by the Cut Copy crew and a funky Frankmusik dub.

Kaiser Chiefs-Never Miss a Beat
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz40P1hFvWs
Canada, did you vote? I Did!
The Kaiser Chiefs busted onto the scene in 2004 with the release of two singles Oh My God and I Predict A Riot. The took the UK by storm and made a splash over here (Canada) in 2005 with some major label support for their full length Employment. I remember catching a fairly entertaining show at The El Mocambo but alas couldn't completely buy into the hype. A couple of years later they dropped another album Yours Truly, Angry Mob with some nice highlites. Its 2008 and the band is back with a fantastic single due off their forthcoming LP Off with Their Heads. Its definately got some ska going on and is reminiscent of the eighties movement. Fantastic.

The Tough Alliance - Neo Violence
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJhXLZwhZEY
My friend Laura mentioned these guys awhile back. This is a catchy tribal house tinged indiepop track. Taken from their 2007 album, A New Chance, I'm thinking this might be a reissue 12 Inch with maybe new mixes? Very Eighties sounding. The band are from Gothenburg, Sweden.

Foals - Olympic Airways
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJ3oIGHMYP8
Great single and fourth to be taken from their first album Antidotes which was released in March. The album on a whole by this UK band is fantastic. Indierock. They are signed to the transgressive label out of Europe and Subpop in North America.

The Courteeners - That Kiss
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anImT0C0fo0
Nice single that doesn't seem to be on their debut album St Jude which was recently released. Courteeners are an english band from Manchester which we profiled back in April. Another song perfect for the chilling fall weather.
Eight Legs - These Grey Days
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4L9koQ-B7k
UK Indiepop track from the Eight Legs out on Weekender Records. Maybe named after the Doctor Who characters?

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPkfFv_aJsA
Sorry I haven't posted for awhile. Work has been crazy amd 70 hour weeks don't really leave alot of time for much. Thank goodness Thanksgiving Weekend here in Canada is a 2 day weekend. This is a nice indiepop track from James Yuill. He is signed by Moshi Moshi. Don't know much more. Perfect for the fall weather.

Attic Lights-Wendy
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKASliPe_B8
4th single from the album Friday Night Lights. You can read about the first 3 if you do a search on this site. Nice 4th single. It even has remixes of it done by Camera Obscura, Vaselines, Fratellis. Would like to hear what they did on this. Unfortunately the band's record label won't let me embed the video into the site so you will need to click above to get it. Good album.

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEzjMbI9cII
Fantastic new single from this new signing to the always fantastic 4AD label. Great peaceful indiepop track. They have no album as of yet but have released a number of singles off various labels including Too Pure. This is a 7 Inch release out in the UK this week. A very sensible pop track

Bjork - Dull Flame Of Desire
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWV4N-ZcDJg
A sweeping epic duet from Sugarcube Bjork and Antony, lead singer of Antony and the Johnsons. Video is done by the three runner ups to some other video contest of Bjork. Each got a 1/3 of the video for this song. Neat stuff. This is the 5th single taken from Bjork's sixth studio album Volta. After hearing this track I'm thinking I have to revisit Volta for another listen.
The Streets - Everything Is Borrowed
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8BHL5SWX0Q
Talk about a new single by Oasis? Why bother when versatile Uk rapper Mike Skinner releases a classic, the self titled track from his 4th album Everything is Borrowed.

The All New Adventures Of Us - Firetruck Doki Doki
Video: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=MnXQVSLzB1I
Catchy indiepop track with horns from this very young looking UK band who goes by the shortform version Tanaou. Signed to One Little Indian. Supposedly a collective of seven musicians. First album is due out in October called BEST LOVED GOODNIGHT TALES. Champion it!!

Carbon/Silicon - The News
Video: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=CUwVT_zX3hM
Mick Jones of the Clash/Big Audio Dynamite and Tony James of Generation X. Great track in the same vein as of BAD. Mick is definately getting old but good that he can still kick it old skool. Funny...this single was released back in 2007 but gets rereleased again this year with a video. Who knows why.
