BPA Toe Jam Contest

Okay...if you have been reading this blog you know I am a huge fan of the BPA. I've been informed that the album is out in February. BPA of course is Norman Cook aka ex-Housemartin, ex-Beats International, Fatboy Slim etc etc etc. The first single was Toejam which featured Talking Heads Pete Byrne and Dizzie Rascal on vocals. The video was amazing. However, Norman's got a contest going on right now that lets you submit a new video for Toejam and compete for fame and glory. Actually I'm not really sure of the prize but it looks like fun. Currently 2 videos have been submitted. The Pop Waffle submission is pretty amazing. Check it out at the contests website hosted by Dailymotion:

Best of 2008

Happy Holidays from Indie Kid Vs Dance Kid. You will have noticed that the postings have slowed during the cold season. Probably has to do with the slowdown of releases by the record industry than my busy schedule at work.

Below I share with you our Top Records of the year. Its been another fine year of stellar bands, singles, videos, and albums. Heres looking to 2009

In no particular order although Sonny J is definately my favourite

Sonny J - Disastro
Those Dancing Days - In Our Space Hero Suits
Santogold-Santogold
Raveonettes - Lust Lust Lust
Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
lykke li - Youth Novels
Mystery Jets - Twenty One
Estelle - Shine
Pop Levi - The Return To Form Black Magick Party
Blood Red Shoes - Box Of Secrets
nick cave - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!

And although the BPA don't have an album out yet former Housemartin Norman Cook is once again brilliant with his project Brighton Port Authority and the tracks Toejam and Seattle

Happy Holidays

Catchy raw track from this UK indierock band. This is their second single and was released a short while back. If you like this they release a third single called She Was Always Cool in the UK on Monday. Maybe an album out soon to? Want to know more about this band. Check out the 8 minute video clip on Youtube which follows the band around their home, studio and alcohol collection.

Happy Mondays Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out)

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TAS0WHWlOA

I remember buying this record on Boxing Day at Record Peddler back in 1987 for 99 cents on vinyl on sale. I was lukewarm to the Mondays back then but now revisiting this album 20 years later all I can say is wow. The obvious hit here is 24 Hour Party People which was the main track for the soundtrack for the movie of the same name. Tart Tart was the first single off the album but the big track for me is Oasis. Inspirational. The Mondays were never as big as they were supposed to be and they were rumoured to be the catalyst for the crash of Factory Records. But looking back they did create some history with 4 great albums. They did make an effort to come back with a new album in 2007, 15 years after their previous album but I have never heard it. Anyone got an opinion on Uncle Dysfunktional?

Catchy song from this San Francisco band. Sorta reminds me of Los Campesinos. Nice. Issued on Moshi Moshi Records.

George Pringle - LCD I love you but you're bringing me down

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFJ6xYu5V9U

Low-fi beat pop. Great single by George Pringle. Strange Video that takes two minutes to kick into the actual single. Vocalist breaks into a Siouxsiesque banter by the end. Ace.

Asobi Seksu - Me & Mary

Great droning buzz shoegazer pop music from this US indie band. This is taken from their forthcoming 3rd album.
