Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the Name
The 1992 single from Rage Against The Machine's eponymous debut album looks set to be this year's Christmas Number One in the U.K. after a campaign to prevent the recent X Factor winner from reaching the coveted Christmas top spot.

IK VS DK 2009: Year in Review
12 months and 12 singles - my favourite releases of each month in 2009.
Click on You Tube links to see/hear videos.
January
Kid Cudi – Day or Night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVb_t_ao9gw
The Data Records anthem that had the clubs slammin during the holiday season
February
CFCF – You Hear Colors
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkcmvELP_tU
Fantastic downtempo track from this Canadian outfit. I hear everything from Art of Noise Moments of Love to Running Up That Hill By Kate Bush borrowed for this chill out track. CFCF went onto release the brilliant full length Continent on Paper Bag Records in November
March
Big Pink – Velvet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA3twi3iSNQ
Grinding sonic noise on 4AD. Went on to follow up the track with further singles Stop The World and Dominoes to support the release of the full length album A Brief History Of Love
April
Jack Penate – Tonight’s Today
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SfrVnYsu1c
Excellent first single from Jack Penate from the album Everything is new. Jack is definately channeling some Vampire Weekend with a very worldly sound going on in this song. Nice indierock off the XL Recordings Label
May
Dub Pistols – Back To Daylight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwitrOosutQ
Funky head nodder track from the Dub Pistols. Taken from the summer anthem and my favourite album of 2009 Rum and Coke. An Album full of funked up, skaful, reggae tinged grooves. Full of all sorts of guest vocalists. Lindy Layton (of Beats International fame) lights up the second single I’m In Love.
June
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – Young Adult Friction
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4itzHRpltQ
Great twee buzz indiepop track from this great band called The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Its taken from their full-length self-titled first album off Slumberland Records, The album is full of 80s reminiscent dreamy low-fi buzzpop singles. Nice
July
Reverend and The Makers – Silence is Talking
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDRS3uNN_Zg
A little bit of tequila from Reverend and The Makers off the Wall of Sound label. Funky electro Britpop.
August
Pitbull – I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2tMV96xULk
Massive beats and catchy lyrics made this the club track of the summer. All I have to say is one word. Rumba!
September
Get Back Guinozzi - Low Files Tropical
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZkacNjfQXE
Cut and paste pop ala avalanches almost. Also, quite the weirdest video. There was to be a full length coming out soon in October called Carpet Madness. They hail from London or France or both.
October
The Drums – Let’s Go Surfing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OsTUnkqSi4
Using the PBJ whistle strategy the band kicks out this indipop anthem.
November
Alphabeat - The Spell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwH0BxtbeEA
Although the list so far would speak differently, I’m definitely a sucker for the nice pop hook sugar coated single with female vocals. Clever Infectious pop music once again from this Danish outfit. Taken from their second album The Spell.
December
The XX – Islands
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjcKXBFLOeo
Nice eerie duet from the XX out of the UK. Simple but explosive; the formula for the whole self-titled album.

Rewind The Icicle Works - The Icicle Works
As we enter in the winter period and single releases slow down I thought I'd start up a new feature called Rewind where Indie Kid Vs Dance Kid will revisit classic albums from way back when. First up Self-Titled First Album by the Icicle Works from 1984. Featured the singles Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream), Love Is A Wonderful Colour, In The Cauldron Of Love, and Nirvana. Love is a Wonderful Colour hit number 15 in the UK but the better single was Birds Fly. Classic eighties alternative new wave album. The band went on to release five albums but this is the one they are really known for.
Birds Fly (Whisper To A Scream)

La Roux - Quicksand
La Roux recycles an early single called Quicksand for a re-release to keep the hype going for the first album. Hard to believe you can get the full length album shipped to you in the UK for free and only pay 4 pounds for the CD. The music industry is definately changing
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq7bx_g9VyM
As per most La Roux video's you will need to click on the youtube link to get it as the record company won't let me embed

Florence and the Machine - You've Got the Love
Brand new single from Florence and the Machine and its a cover of a classic by Candi Statton. This song has been reworked and revisited numerous times since its creation. Florence and the Machine do a good job with it but I'll stay preferential to the original eighties version.

The Books - Smells Like Content
I was checking out the live music scene in Milwaukee over the next couple of months (I'll be there over the holidays) and I noticed that the Books are playing at the end of November. While I will miss the show, I thought I would post one of their songs on here since IDKD has not acknowledged their presence before. The musical duo have an experimental musical style and incorporate a variety of samples in their music with an upcoming studio album that will be worth checking out. Oh, and they are more than a little pretentious, but just let the music wash over you.

Brand new 7 Inch single from the Raveonettes featuring two tracks taken from their latest CD In and Out Of Control out on Fierce Panda records. The Very Best (feat. Ezra Koenig) - Warm Heart of Africa
The new 2009 album 'The Warm Heart of Africa' from the trio calling themselves The Very Best has been getting a lot of attention recently in the UK. The unusual story of Malawi-born Esau Myamwaya meeting one of the two Radioclit DJs in a junk shop in London has been in the headlines this week. Their collaboration led to a very well-received mixtape in 2008 and their recent debut album. Esau sings in Chichewa, the national language of Malawi. This particular song features Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend.

Dizzee Rascal - Holiday
Just before we get to today's video we'd like to thank our regular readers as IK VS DK reached 500 posts last week. Here's to 500 more.
J and D
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JQw84rW8rE
IKVSDK are huge fans of the Dizzie and Calvin Harris as is our sister blog Panic Manual who have been hyping this track for weeks. Definately a floor filler. This is the third hit single from the forthcoming fourth album Tongue and Cheek. Dizzee, recently confirmed in an interview on Radio One, that he is leaving his grime roots behind, in favour of more mainstream pop. As noted by the past 3 singles Its more like left. The single finally physically got released this week.

Eyes on 3: Pitbull, Chicane, MSTRKRFT
1) Pitbull - I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2tMV96xULk
Slammin club track which has probably been around for awhile but got the full release in the UK just recently. Massive beat and catchy lyrics make this the song of the summer. Rumba.
2. Chicane - Poppiholla
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-phtXAyv5N0
Chicane keeps on churning out the nice atmospheric club trance tracks with an interesting but simple video for this one.
3. MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend - Heartbreaker
Video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv0Z_Q9CLEM
Very nice piano driven indie-electro track from MSTRKRFT featuring the vocals of John Legend. Bizarre video about teenage shenanigans and love.
