Damn...I love this band.....eerie gothic indie punk rock ala eighties with just enough melodic Jesus and the Mary Chain sensibility. This is off the 7 Inch. Not available on album as of yet.
Dark mesmorizing Indie rock from The Eels seventh album. Hard to believe they have released so many. I've virtually ignored the band since there 1996 Debut Beautiful Freak. Maybe I need to go back and revisit. This track is the first single off their new album Hombre Lobo. I'll dedicate this track to Chris Lobo.
Okay, I will admit that I do not know much about this Swedish band, but this story caught my eye. They decided to sell the original master dubplate vinyl (the only existing copy) on ebay. Presumably this track is recorded from the 12-inch vinyl. The story, which is arguably better than the song itself, can be found here http://www.p2pnet.net/story/18781.
Very nice alt indie tock track from this Glasgow band off their first album Checkmate Savage. The single and album were released by Chemikal Underground.
Having posted a couple of their videos recently, I managed to catch Metric live at the Electric Ballroom in Camden last night. You could tell that they were really enjoying themselves and they put on a fantastic show to end their UK tour. Supporting them was a little-known band out of New Zealand. Now based in London, Connan Mockasin and friends specialise in psychedelic songs, featuring Connan's bizarrely high-pitched voice. Their final song last night was an entertaining cover of The Teenagers' Starlett Johansson, which can be listened to on their Myspace page (link below). Egon Hosford is one of the songs that will be available on their upcoming album.
Little bit of a cheezy video but a nice song once they kick into it. This is the side project of Stuart Murdoch of Belle And Sebastian and it does go with the typical Belle and Sebastian type vibe. Nice!
Dizzie tears up the track while Armand (Van Helden) slams the club vibe. Not an amazing track but definately would make the dance floors move. And can Dizzie go wrong?
Ruff new third single from Rave pioneers the Prodigy and definately more reminiscent of classic Prodigy. Taken from their 2009 release Invaders Must Die. Track samples the classic club late eighties club track Take Me Away.
Brand new single from Lily Allen. A country pop stomper with country variety show style video to boot. Great second single take from It's Not Me, It's You. EMI won't let me embed the video so you will have to click on the above link to get the video from youtube.
Brand new 7 Inch single from School of Seven Bells. Not really new though as this was originally released in 2007. Nice dreamy airy track typical of the band. The New York based band is composed of two twin ladies and one guy. The album Alpinisms sports a number of similar sounding tracks. There is no video for this one but someone was nice enough to post the song in a youtube video.
I'm a huge Annie fan but this is a big average. I'm even putting money down that this doesn't grow on me. Hard to swallow after such a great album in Don't Stop (officially not even released).
Have to thank my UK correspondent Dunstan for posting last night. And of course he once again posts something Canadian. Cheers Mate :)
Who Can Say; Fantastic second single from the Horrors taken from their album Primary Colours. This British band is signed to the XL Recordings label. Actually been around for awhile and this is their second album. Sorta new wave, gothic, alternative 8os sounding outfit. I've given the album the twice over and its fantastic . I unfortunately missed their most recent Toronto appearance opening up for another fine band The Kills on April 30th at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. Did I miss a good show? Let me know.
Another single from Metric's great new album Fantasies, which was released in April. This is an acoustic version of one of the ten tracks from the album. Enjoy.
Smooth blues track from the Black Ace (the boss card in your hand)... not exactly indie or dance but you've got to love the way that he plays and the fact that he is a true family man.
Very Twee from this UK band. Reminds me of the good days of Tallulah Gosh or Heavenly. Sweet. No video for this new single though so you got to go to the Myspace page. Released on record label Damaged Goods in the UK
Tommy sounds like a name of a rock artist from the early Eighties. Thats where the music goes too. This is alittle bit of a grower. But will have you dancing after a few listens.
Fantastic Track from this 4 piece girl band out of the UK. Very jangily indiepop almost Twee but not quite....Sweet... Definately my single of the week. Unfortunately no video for this one so you need to hit it up on myspace. But definately worth the click.
Here is a situation where I listened to the singles from the first album Colour It In and didn't get it. The Uk band The Maccabees are about to release their new album Wall of Arms this month and hype it up with the release of the second single Love You Better. Fantastic Moody atmospheric piece of indiepop. The band is signed to Fiction Records out of the UK. I may just need to revisit the first album.
Nice single from Scottish singer-songwriter King Creosote taken from his Flick the Vs album. It has been indicated that the King has released over 40 albums. WOW. 3-4 albums a year. This is pretty agressive. He is signed to Domino Records. Very melodic indie cut from the King.
Third album from American band Von Bondies has just been released called "Love, Hate and Then There’s You". Its been five years since the last release. This is the first single taken from the album. Catchy indie rock track with an eighties teen movie feel to it. Released by Fierce Panda in the UK just recently
