Dinosaur Jr - Over It

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgTJtdn6VjM
Grungy return for Dinosaur Jr. The new album Farm is getting huge hype and this is the first single. The video is a clever shot of the band reliving their youth by doing skate board/bmx bike tricks for 3:46 including some crazy spills. My mate Ben is all over this band. American band who first got going in 1984.

Ash - Return Of White Rabbit

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsOACFA3sXA

New high energy single from Ash called Return of White Rabbit. One of the better things I have heard from them in years. Not sure what the strategy is but it looks like they are going with a new strategy. After 2007's album, Twilight Of The Innocents, Ash have indicated that the band will not release another album. Instead, they are now releasing the 'A-Z Series', a series of 26 singles released on a fortnightly basis over the next 12 months. Return Of White Rabbit is the first of these singles.

Fans will be able to download this song free of charge from the Ash website www.ash-official.com from May 18, and 1000 limited 7” will be made available to buy through mail order and selected independent record shops from June 8.

A band adopting the digital age while still catering the vinyl fanatics.

Anyways....fantastic track

ABC Live in Toronto at Pride Sunday June 28, 2009

Having been really young when ABC put out their first single I was quite excited about the opportunity to check them out live about 30 years later. On arrival I just caught the tail end of another 80s ikon Wang Chung. Was always a big fan of their track Dance Hall Days but you can have Everybody Have Fun Tonight. Of course, I was unlucky enough to catch only the latter track.

Check out Dance Hall Days here:
Dance Hall Days Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ernCPFVe8wU

ABC were next to take to the stage. I keep on forgeting we are all getting older. Martin Fry, lead singer of the band is 51. Dressed in a suit, he said a quick hello and said he was going to run through his 80s catalog. No other original members are still part of the band. He dropped right into Poison Arrow.

The following was the set list which went heavy on their early career and avoided the later stuff completely (They have nine albums). Alot of good singles missed including one of my favourites Vanity Kills. The set was maybe about 4o minutes and had no encores. ABC released a new album last year called Traffic, their first album in 11 years and he played one track off of it but surprisingly not the first single.

Poison Arrow (Lexicon Of Love - 1st album)
How To Be A Millionaire (How To Be A Zillionaire - 3rd album)
Ride (Traffic - 9th album)
All Of My Heart (Lexicon Of Love - 1st album)
Forever Together (?-New Song-?)
Tears Are Not Enough (Lexicon Of Love - 1st album)
Be Near Me (How To Be A Zillionaire - 3rd album)
When Smokey Sings (Alphabet City - 4th album)
Look Of Love (Lexicon Of Love - 1st album)

Actually I found out that all these bands that performed Sunday afternoon as part of Pride was not by coincidence. They are all currently on tour as part of A Regeneration Tour across North America with ABC headlining. Also included on top of ABC, Wang Chung are Missing Persons, Cutting Crew, and Terri Nunn of Berlin. This was the shame that Terri Nunn didn't make the Canadian date. Loved Berlin and their classics including No More Words, and Sex (I'm A).

I'll leave you with the classic video for Look Of Love. Cannot embed unfortunately due to the record company but click to get the youtube video. Classic video

Camera Obscura - Honey In The Sun

Video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfDg7Vz8Ow4

New video from Camera Obscura. No single release info as of yet for this track but what a good song taken from their latest 4AD album My Maudlin Career.

"(It) was shot over a whole year of touring at various festivals and of course at the infamous Glasgow Barrowlands. It was a great achievement for the band to play The Barrowlands, so we're really happy to have it down on Super 8 forever."

Kap Bambino - 'Dead Lazers'

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5E4QUUFG9Y

Noisy nu-rave indiepop with a gothic touch...not sure if this single does really anything for me. Their first 7 inch was much better I think (Check out March 20, 2009 on the blog)

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Young Adult Friction

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4itzHRpltQ

Great Twee buzz indiepop track from this great band called The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Its taken from their full length self titled first album of Slumberland Records. This is the second single off the album. Check out November 24 for our review of the first single Everything With You; another great track
