Raveonettes Bang / Last Dance

Brand new 7 Inch single from the Raveonettes featuring two tracks taken from their latest CD In and Out Of Control out on Fierce Panda records. Track 1 Bang is a shimmering pop track while Last Dance could have been found on a John Hughes soundtrack back in the eighties. I look forward to hearing the new album.

Bad Lieutenant - Sink Or Swim

First single from New Order lead singer Bernard Sumner from his new band Bad Lieutenant taken from the first album Never Cry Another Tear. Typical New Order sound without the dance beats.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Higher Than The Stars

Brand new EP from The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Nice jangily guitar pop ala the eighties twee sound. The ep has 4 tracks and a low tempo spacey remix for the dance floor by Saint Etienne. The Pains can't seem to do no wrong. The Ep is released off the Slumbberland Record Label in the USA

The Drums - Let's Go Surfing

Allison of Sister blog Panic Manual was on the pulse on this one back at the beginning of September. Fantastic track that was just released on 7 inch in the UK in October. Using the PBJ whistle strategy the band kicks out a soon to be anthem.

The Very Best (feat. Ezra Koenig) - Warm Heart of Africa

The new 2009 album 'The Warm Heart of Africa' from the trio calling themselves The Very Best has been getting a lot of attention recently in the UK. The unusual story of Malawi-born Esau Myamwaya meeting one of the two Radioclit DJs in a junk shop in London has been in the headlines this week. Their collaboration led to a very well-received mixtape in 2008 and their recent debut album. Esau sings in Chichewa, the national language of Malawi. This particular song features Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend.

Catching Up

I've been falling behind due to work. I'll try to play catch up on this long weekend with some really good tunes I've been hearing in the past week

1. Fists-Cockatoo

Jangily pop from the Fists released on Hello Thor Records

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ejxtCvmMC4

2.The Octopus Project - Wet Gold

Hippy shiny glimmer pop which has been around for awhile but gets the reissue treatment on the Golden Beds EP released just recently

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Avw3vfeyjI

3. Damien Leith - To Get To You

Emotive pop from the Australian Idol Winner. Nice indiepop tune and better than anything American Idol has churned out.

4. The Leisure Society - Save It For Someone Who Cares

Indie tinged Alt-country track from this UK band taken from their debut The Sleeper

CFCF Monolith

Excellent eighties influenced downtempo track from CFCF taken from the album continent. This is the second track I have heard by this Canadian Outfit but each track has niftily borrowed an eighties track and subtely downtempolized it. This particular track borrows from the Pet Shop Boys. Nice!!
